Why seek help from a counsellor?
Life challenges us in many ways and people experience difficulties or problems at some time in their lives. We can become overwhelmed and confused within certain situations; we may notice increasing anxiety and panic; we may have relationship issues; we can struggle with illness, death, loss, change and transitions. We can have difficulty in finding answers and direction that feel right for us. There may also be some areas of our lives that we would like to understand more clearly, change or improve. These are some of the challenges faced in everyday life which clients bring to counselling/psychotherapy.
Counselling/Psychotherapy offers an opportunity to express ourselves without fear of judgement and to be able to look at ourselves and our lives in a safe, caring and confidential environment. It can help us to see things from different perspectives while allowing space to clarify our own thoughts and feelings. With clearer understanding, different choices can be explored and made. Working with a counsellor/psychotherapist can also be helpful in developing new strategies and ways of problem solving.
From my easily accessible venue in Largs, North Ayrshire, I aim to provide a confidential, caring space where clients feel free to express themselves, in the clear knowledge that they will be heard and accepted without judgement. Within this safe working relationship, clients have the opportunity to understand themselves more fully and bring about the changes and life choices that, on an individual basis, feel beneficial for them.
Some of the difficulties or concerns that people bring to counselling and psychotherapy are:
- Bereavement / Grief / Loss
- Childhood / Family Issues
- Life Changes / Chronic Illness
- Loss of Control
- Low Self-Esteem
- Panic Attacks
- Personal Development
- Relationship Issues
- Work Related / Employment Issues
In my role as counsellor, I am committed to listening to clients without judgement; offering understanding within a caring, confidential, supportive working relationship and facilitating clients to:
- Explore their difficulties and concerns
- See more clearly how they experience themselves and others
- Understand and value themselves, their strengths and limitations
- Make life choices that feel right for them
What do I offer and where am I?
I understand that taking that first step to ask for support can be a difficult one. As your counsellor, I will be alongside you from your first contact with me and throughout the counselling process until you feel ready to end the work. I offer differ ways of working to suit your individual needs and circumstances – open-ended; short-term; time-limited and can work with you either in person or remotely by telephone or video link. I aim to be as flexible as I can regarding the days and times offered to fit in with clients' lifestyles and working patterns.
My consulting room in North Ayrshire is conveniently placed within Largs town centre close to road, bus and rail links. There is some on road parking at the venue and alternative parking close by. Largs is not only easily accessible for clients in and around North Ayrshire but also for those coming from Kilmarnock in the east, Prestwick in the south and is only a short distance from both the Inverclyde and Renfrewshire borders.
